Col. William Custis 1
He made a will on 27 November 1725 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Col. William Custis. To wife Bridget 200 acres where Churchill Darby now lives & whole personal estate except what I have already given my daughter Bridget Custis; also 1/3 of all my lands & Islands besides the above 200 acres, for her life. To daughter Bridget Custis & heirs, except what is above named, all my lands, Islands, marshes &c. but should she die without heirs then to my grandaughter Joanna Custis Hope, & for want of heirs to my wife Bridget Custis & heirs. To grandaughter Joanna Custis Hope when she arrives to 18 years or marriage, provided my wife Bridget should die without disposing of them, 2 of the slaves given my wife, viz: Joe & Daniel, also the 2OO A. devised my wife, provided she die without disposing of it, but should the said Joanna Custis Hope die without heirs, then I give the two slaves & the 200 acres to my daughter Bridget. To grandaughter Joanna Custis Hope slaves' increase that I lent to my daughter Joanna Mary Hope, & should she die without heirs to my daughter Bridget. Wife & daughter Bridget Exrs. Witt: Robert Coleburn, William Burton, Charles McClester, William Wood. William died before 1 November 1726 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated. William married Joan (?). (Joan (?) was born about 1660 in Accomack Co., VA.) |
