James was named in his cousin's will on 5 December 1807 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as James Drummond, son of Ricdard, in the will of John Drummond of Henry. He married Harriet Kellam, daughter of Custis Kellam Sr. and Elizabeth Smith, 24 Nov 1828 (bond) at Accomack Co, VA. William D. Chandler was the security on the M.L.B. of James Drummond and Harriet Kellam, ward of James Drummond.

James was named as an heir on 27 September 1830 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that he was shown as James Drummond, a child of Catherine Drummond dec'd, daughter of Smith Milliner dec'd, who was the eldest brother of Robert Milliner dec'd, who died before 1 Jan 1787, formerly a Lieut. in the Virginia Navy in the Rev. War.

He married Ruth Parker Taylor, daughter of James Taylor (S.K.) and Esther 'Hester' Boggs, on 7 March 1850 at Accomack Co, VA. George K. Turner was the security on the M.L.B. of James Drummond, widower, and Ruth P. Taylor, of James dec'd.

James was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as James Drummond the head of HH#140, a 50 year old farmer with real estate valued at $2,000. Listed with him were the following Drummonds: Ruth, age 42; James, a 20 year old carpenter; Henry, an 18 year old farmer; Robt., a 16 year old student; Elizabeth, age 15; John, age 13; and Mary, age 6. James was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as James Drummond the head of HH#741, a 59 year old farmer. Listed with him were the following Drummonds: Ruth, age 49; Henry, an 18 year old farmer; Mary, age 15; Frances, age 9; and Hester, age 6.

James died on 8 March 1875 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA, at age 74. Both the death records and tombstone show 8 Mar 1875. He was shown as Jas. Drummond, who died of pneumonia at the age of 74 years. He was the son of Rich. Drummond and the husband of Ruth P. Drummond. His son Francis R. Drummond gave the information.
