Robert Drake was christened at St. Clement Danes, Surry England on Jul 4 1591. Robert died before Sep 8 1636 at Northampton Co., VA when he was post-humously granted 200a of land "beginning from the half way tree, runing S.E. into the woods & W. upon the maine baye. Due in right of his late father Robert Drake, whoe at his owne costs did transport himselfe, the sd. Robert his sonn, Joane Drake his wife & Elizabeth Drake his daughter." He left no will but in 1641, the court ordered Thomas Hnt "take over the plantacon for the benefit of the Drake children." By then Joan (Gawton) Drake had remarried to Thomas Hunt. The tract of land mentioned in in Whitelaw as tract number N8 and, in the modern day (2017), basically where the town of Cape Charles and Kiptopeake Park are located.
Robert married Joan Gawton, daughter of Thomas Gawton and Patience Best, on 06 Jun 1622 in Merstham, Surrey, England. (Joan Gawton was born on 17 Nov 1602 in Rygate, Surry, England and died before 26 Feb 1657 in Northampton Co., VA.)
