bullet  Notes:

*It is uncertain whether this John Dalby is son of Edward Dalby born 1630 but it is nearly certain this one is a son of either that Edward or or Peter born 1632, both sons of the immigrant Irishman John Dalby. He cannot be the son of Jphn of John because he has a survivibng son with that name already.

From the "Miles Files": John Dalby (Matchipungo) bought land in 1686 at tract N52, Matchipungo, Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that William Whittington sold 200 acres to John Dolby, describing it as being in a fork of Scott's Quarter Branch. The branch makes this fork just west of the seaside road and the land extended northwest from there. The land remained in the Dolby family until nearly the middle of the last century, but a lack of wills makes it difficult to trace the family line accurately. From various deeds from surrounding lands, in which bounds are given, it has been determined that certain owners were: 1740 John Dolby; 1747 & 1756 William Dalby; 1759 William & Joseph Dolby. In 1760 Joseph and Elizabeth Dolby sold the north 100 acres to William Satchell and that became merged with the land above it. In 1691 Peirce and Elizabeth Davis gave 50 acres of another portion of tract N52 to his "Kinsman Richard Saunders" for the latter's life. (NOTE: This supports the assumption that it was this John Dolby's daughter Esther that married Richard Saunders sometime after 1709 when she was named Hester Dolby, along with her son Branston Dolby, in the will of Francis Branston.)
