Mrs. Hitch's obituary appeared in an Illinois newspaper dated July 2, 1938 (perhaps the Paris (IL) Daily Beacon), a copy of which was sent to me by Ned Boyajione in 1996 as follows:

DEATH CLAIMS MRS. C.P. HITCH AT HOME HERE
Rites Tuesday for Widow Of Former Publisher, Political Leader. Mrs. Mary Irene Huston Hitch, 89, widow of Charles P. Hitch, former publisher of the Paris Daily Beacon and long-time Republican leader in state and nation, died at 11 o'clock Friday evening at the residence, 218 East Wood street. About a year ago Mrs. Hitch fell and sustained a fractured hip, since which time she had been bedfast. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. Interment at Edgar cemetery. Mrs. Hitch was born in Paris on December 17, 1849, a daughter of Dr. Paul and Lucy Weisiger Huston. Mr. Hitch died about four years ago. She is survived by a sister, Miss Grace Huston, Harrison, N.Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Lucy Martindale, Paris; a granddaughter, Mrs. Pepper Clay and two great granddaughters, Lucy Starling Clay and Susan Martindale Clay, all of Ft. Sill, Okla.

Mary married Charles Peebles Hitch, son of Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Hitch and Laura Ann White, on 25 Nov 1874 in Edgar Co., IL.^{1 2} (Charles Peebles Hitch was born on 16 Jan 1850 in Clermont Co., OH,^{1 3 9 10 11 12} died on 29 Aug 1933 in Paris, Edgar Co., IL ^{3 13 14} and was buried about 01 Sep 1933 in Edgar Cemetery, Paris, Edgar Co., IL.)
