MR. LEVIN M. DASHIELL DEAD
He Was Probably The Oldest Resident Of Salisbury.
Salisbury, Md, July 9,-Mr. Levin M. Dashiell, probably the oldest citizen of Salisbury, dropped dead at his residence, on Camden avenue, early this morning. Mr. Dashiell was born April, 1822, in Somerset county, now Wicomico, near Barren creek, now Mardela springs. His father was Charles Dashiell, a prominent merchant at Forktown, Somerset county,and at one time a schoolteacher.
Mr. Levin M. Dashiell began his business life in the general store of William & John Gumby, at Forktown. Somerset county, now Fruitland, Wicomico county. Later he conducted a store in the same town in his own interest. Afterward he engaged in a extensive milling, mercantile, lumber and cord wood business at Tony Tank, on the Wicomico river, near Salisbury. He was at that time owner of three large schooners plying on the Chesapeake bay and Potomac river. He was from his youth a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church until 1865, when he became a charter member of the Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church South, which was organized then at Salisbury. In 1892 he was appointed as an assistant in one of the State tobacco warehouses. He became deputy under Levin J. Gale, Register of Wills for Wicomico county, in 1893, which post he occupied up to his death.
He is survived by his widow and one son, Mr. John W. Dashiell, the present Register of Wills for this county. The funeral will take place on Thursday at Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church South, Salisbury. Interment will be made in Parsons' Cemetery
