James Cannon Hitch
Served as a Private/Sargeant, Company E, 3rd Massachusetts Infantry in the Civil War (Union Soldiers Index - National Archives). In the Civil War Service Index - Union (National Archives), it states that at age 24, a merchant, and a resident of New Bedford, Massachusetts, James C. Hitch enlisted on September 18, 1862. He mustered-in on September 23, 1862 as a Private (then Sargeant) in Company E of the 3rd Massachusetts Infantry, USA. He mustered-out on June 26, 1863. James married Louise Adams Robinson, daughter of Henry Robinson and Lucretia Adams, in 1865. (Louise Adams Robinson was born on 17 Dec 1838 in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA 2 4 and died in 1907.) |
