Democratic Messenger (Snow Hill, MD), 2/16/1918:

SALISBURY LOSES RESPECTED CITIZEN
Mr. Walter C. Turner was summoned to Salisbury last week by the death of his father, Mr. Joshua W. Turner. The following tribute to Mr. Turner and account of his death was published in the Salisbury Advertiser last week: In the death of Mr. Joshua W. Turner, which occurred on Wednesday evening at his home on W. Locust Street, Salisbury loses one of her oldest and most highly esteemed citizens. Mr. Turner was 82 years of age, and up to a few years back retained his remarkable vigor and strength for the past few months, however, he had been in very feeble health. The deceased was a quiet, home loving man and was highly regarded by all who knew him. He was well known for his strength and endurance, and at 77 years of age, was able to hold his own by the side of the younger men who worked in the lumber plant of Jackson Brothers Co., where he was employed. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church South, at Shad Point, and the interment was I the cemetery there on Friday afternoon. He was twice married and by his first marriage, one daughter, Mrs. Woodland C. Disharoon, wife of the Chief of Police of this city, survives. His second wife, who was prior to her marriage Mrs. Hawkins, survives and the following children: Walter C. Turner, Snow Hill; Benjamin W. Turner, George Turner, Melvin Turner, this city; James Turner, Newport News, Va., and Mrs. Elmer Bradley, this city. The deceased was a consistent member of the M.E. Church South and a life-long member of the Democratic party.
