Frank Hitch's obituary of 1941:

Frank S. Hitch, 73, Spearfish, South Dakota, pioneer resident of the Black Hills, died at his home there on Saturday morning. Funeral services were held in Custer at 2PM Monday at the Heidereim Chapel. Rev. W.A. Ross was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Custer Cemetery with an escort composed of W.E Nevin, Frank Walsh, Eric Heiderheim, and Mr. Miller of Custer and N.E. Roth and Joe Brown of Spearfish. Frank S. Hitch was born in Catawba, Kentucky August 13, 1867 and went to the Black Hills in 1887. He was the last surviving stage coach driver in the Hills.

He was married in 1895 at Edgemont to Lizzie Etta Farrell. One child, Mrs. Henry W. Pearson of Deadwood was born to this union. Mrs. Hitch died several years later. In 1925 Mr. Hitch was married to Zella Oehler in Florida. They have made their home in Spearfish for several years. Survivers are the widow; the daughter, Mrs. Pearson; three grandchildren, Franklin Fred and Anna Doe; two brothers, Tull Hitch of Deadwood; Bert Hitch of Artesia, NM; three nieces Mrs. Dick Costello of Deadwood, Mrs. James Kelly of Rapid City, Maxine Hitch of Baker, MT; and three nephews J.A. Hitch of Spearfish, Gerald Hitch of Baker, MT and M.L. Hitch of Los Angeles, CA. Attending the funeral from Deadwood were Mr. and Mrs. Pearson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Costello and family and Tull Hitch, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Hitch of Spearfish and Mr. and Mrs. Kelly of Rapid City.

In the Federal Census of 1900, Frank Hitch is listed in Hastings, Adams County, Nebraska in a household as follows: - Frank Hitch, born 8/1868 in KY - Lizzie Hitch, born 3/1876 in MN - Lucille Hitch, born 3/1896 in SD.

In the Federal Census of 1920, Frank S. Hitch is listed in Kenton County, Kentucky as a lodger in a household as follows: - Frank S. Hitch, age 52, born in KY.
