In "A Hitch Orchard" (1931), compiler Daisy Hitch Davies writes: When Abby Hitch was married she received two slaves from Maryland as a wedding gift. She cared for the home after the death of her brother George Hitch. She has a granddaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Gifferd who lives part of the time in Toronto, Can. This granddaughter is married three times.
