In a file of Veterans Administration Pension Payment Cards (Index) 1907-1933 in the National Archives, it states that Catherine Hitch was an Army widow of Clement Hitch and that she died on March 20, 1913 in Chilcoathe (sic), Ohio. Clement Hitch had been a Private in Company H, 149th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. (Cert. No. 620770) The death certificate for William Marion Hitch states his mother, Catherine Painter, was born in Stanford, VA. Catherine married Clement Ross Hitch, son of William Hitch and Nancy Ross, on 23 Mar 1848 in Ross Co., OH.1 2 3 (Clement Ross Hitch was born on 29 Jan 1825 in Sussex Co., DE,2 9 10 11 12 13 died on 07 Sep 1906 in Ross Co., OH 14 15 and was buried about 10 Sep 1906 in Browns Chapel Cemetery, Ross Co., OH.)
