Matthew Dorman wrote his will Oct 31 1740 and it was probated in Somerset on Dec 10 1740 -To eldest son Michael Dorman: all that parcel of land on which he now lives beginning at a marked white oak thence. . . to a tree standing by the new road. -To daughter Mary Owens: to have livestock, in addition that already given to her. Five shillings. -To grandsons John Owens, Michael Owens, and Samuel Owens (sons of Mary Owens): the increase of the livestock given to their mother. -To son William Dorman: all remaining lands adjoining those given to Michael. -To daughter Rachel Hayman [Herman, Homan]: 10 shillings besides that already given to her. -To son Nehemiah Dorman: remainder of all lands with the provision that he allow his brothers to cut timber. Lands are not to be sold. -To grandson Matthew Dorman Hayman: all lands left to Nehemiah should Nehemiah die without heirs. -To Betty Dorman: one heifer that came from Dames Quarter. -To Matthew Dorman (brother of Betty Dorman): a gun that his father used to carry. -To wife Frances Dorman: one-third of the plantation and dwelling house for her life or widowhood. Negro Jack. -To daughter Charity Dorman: to divide the remainder of the personal estate with Mary and Nehemiah. -To son-in-law John Hayman: five shillings from Nehemiah in return for a riding horse, saddle, and bridle; to hold the five shillings for Matthew Dorman Hayman. Executors: son Nehemiah and wife Frances. Witnesses: Patrick Allison, John Owens, Sr., John Owens, Jr., John Connelly. Widow Frances Dorman agreed to terms of the will. (MdW-22:301, SoW-EB9:215)
