Gertrude Emily Ennis Butler died at the age of 65 on September 22, 1950, in the Spring Hill Nursing Home following a short illness. She was interred in the Christian Church Cemetery in Snow Hill, Maryland. She is survived by one son Mr. Clayton Ennis Butler of Chester, PA, and by one daughter Mrs. Bruce Farrelly of Laurel, DE, and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton Purnell Butler and one daughter Thelma Ellen Butler.
Mrs. Butler attended Longridge country school. She attended a teacher training institution and returned to teach at Longridge. In the 1940's she owned and operated a small grocery store in Snow Hill.
Her grandfather Zadock Ennis served in the American Revolutionary War in the Wicomico Battalion, Worcester Co. MD Militia, 6th Class, Capt. Horsey Co. (Source: The Maryland Militia in the Revolution, Clements & Wright, pp 254, 256, 257)
