States that the plaintiff and defendant were married in Pendleton County in 1870 but, about Sep 14 1872, the defendat abandoned the plaintiff. He prays for divorce.

Up to the time of separation, they lived all the time at the house of plaintiff's parents, and plaintiff refused to provide defendant a home elsewhere; the mother of plaintiff was very unkind to defendant and treated her so harshly. Asks that the prayer of plaintiff be granted.

Eliza J. Hitch, age 63; resides in Pendleton County. Have known defendant 3 years. They were married on Dec 1 1870. When defendant left, she went to Catawba first. I don't know where else. Since then plaintiff has lived part of the time at our house and part of the time at Falmouth. Plaintiff is my son. When defendant left she said she was coming to Falmouth to see the corner stone of the Presbyterian Church laid. She rode horseback to Catawba and went to Falmouth on the train. She liked to stay away from home too much. - Eliza J. Hitch

Nettie Hitch, age 17, resides in Pendleton County. I have known defendant 6 years. Have known plaintiff all my life. I lived with them most all the time when they lived together. I was there when she left. I received a note from defendant since she left (filed):
"Nettie Will you please be so kind as to get the over skirt of my new calico dress and the body and sleeves and all the scrap like it and give them to Crozer and Nettie please get every thing of mine and put them in the trunk for me and I will send for the trunk as soon as I can. You will oblige me very much. Maggie Please send that sack that Annie Thompson loaned me the night of the festival. The trunk was sent to her father's house in Catawba.." - Nettie Hitch
C.A. Purdy, age 34; resides in Falmouth, occupation is a saddler. I have known plaintiff 17 years next June; and have known defendant 8 years. I saw defendant at Catawba 5 or 6 weeks ago. - C A Purdy
