Priscey Vincent
- Born: Abt 1760, Somerset Co., MD
- Marriage (1): Thomas Moore on 21 May 1783 in Somerset Co., MD
This compiler found that a lady in SC who had an old notebook of Louther Hitch (1750-1838) who moved from Somerset County to Laurens Co., SC in 1800. I finally got her to send me photocopies of the pages! The book has notes all the way back to 1774 where it states "Loudy hitch's book - - - - 1774" and "Roberd Anderson carred Loudy hitch's pot the 5th day of January 1778"
Most things are related to weather and everyday business but did find this: "Ralph Lowe and Nelly Waller was Marred 30th Day of January 1785" and "Thomas More and presala vinson Wors Marred the 21 Day of May in the year of our Lord 1783." I don't have the first couple in my lines so thought I'd pass it along in case you do. In the book, after 1774-1785 writings which are fairly sparse, it seems to pick up again in 1809/14 by which time Louther was in SC and the writing seems to be of his son, Joseph N. Hitch (1794-1827) as we see him sign "J. Hitch," "J.N. Hitch" and "J.N.H." He was father of Young H.E. Hitch (1825-1864) who we wrote our book about for his service in the 16th SC Infantry CSA and was killed at Kennesaw, GA in June 1864. Nowhere have I found proof but, I would swear Joseph N. Hitch's middle name is Nicholson after his grandmother Isabell Nicholson (1724-1790) who married Louther Hitch's father John Hitch (1723-c1769). Isabell married 2nd, a Mr. Waller, unknown, but possibly Ebenezer Waller (see below for proof*). So, there is a Waller connection for the aforementioned marriage (maybe Nelly Waller was step-daughter of Isabell Nicholson Hitch Waller?). As for Priscilla Vincent/Vinson, I believe she to be the d/o Benjamin Vincent (c1715-1773) who mentions a daughter "Priscey" Vincent in his will. Also, and more importantly to establishing a connection here, Priscey Vincent's brother, Elijah Vincent (c1740-1777/86) married Annis Hitch, the sister of Louther Hitch! So, this one runs at a very high probability that "Priscey" and "presala" are one and the same person.
Priscey married Thomas Moore on 21 May 1783 in Somerset Co., MD. (Thomas Moore was born about 1758 in Somerset Co., MD.)
