Jospeh N. Hitch's birth date comes from an old 1806 Artihmatic Book of his that was shared with this compiler by Elinore Mowbray. Joseph is probably the male listed in his father Louther's household in 1810 as age 16-26 and 1820 as age 16-26 (would narrow his birth year to 1793/94). Information and historical documents (school book) discovered by descendant Elinor Mowbray give his birth as October 10, 1794, making him a twin to his sister Mary Hitch. The middle initial of his name MIGHT stand for NICHOLSON, the maiden name of his grandmother, Isabell Hitch.
Joseph Hitch witnessed the will of Roger Brown in 1826, he the future father-in-law of Rosanna (Dalrymple) Hitch.
Sometime between 1827 and 1829, Joseph N. Hitch dec'd. Real Estate $288.50. William Brown & Rosannah his wife. Henry Hitch. None paid on Bond settled by giving to Wm Brown husband of dec'd wife & guardian of the minor the above bond for receipt." (South Carolina Magazine of Ancestral Research, Vol. 14, page 20)
Joseph married Rosanna Dalrymple, daughter of (Son) Dalrymple and Unknown, about 1823 in SC. (Rosanna Dalrymple was born in 1800-1805 and died in 1844-1849 in Laurens Co., SC.)
