Son of Andrew & Elizabeth (Gregory) Gregg. Husband to Harriet J. Gregg, and father to four children: Webster, Thomas, Mary E., and George H. Gregg. Enlisted as a 2nd Sergeant on August 15, 1862 at the age of 35. Joined Co. H, 30th Iowa Infantry Regiment on September 14, 1862. Promoted to 1st Sergeant on June 2, 1863. Died of disease on June 22, 1863 at Walnut Hills, MS
