From "A Hitch Orchard": A record taken from Gravesend Cemetery, Reformed Dutch, Brooklyn, N.Y. on Flatbush Avenue reads as follows; "Francis Hitch died March 4, 1848, age 40 years. Erected to his memory by his friends in Flatbush." Up to date [1930], the compiler has not been able to learn why this monument was erected. However, we feel love and admiration must have played a part. He was survived by his wife for many years. She was always an invalid.
