Alexander Thomas Russell
Alexander Thomas Russell was a Tavern-keeper in Princess Anne in the 1760s as found in the August Court records of 1761 where he is listed as: "Alexr. Thos. Russell Lycence to keep Tavern : Alexander Thomas Russell of Somerset County Inholder Came here into Court in his Proper Person And Prays that he may be Permitted to keep an Ordinary or house of Entertainment in the County afd. at his Own house ^Princes Ann Town^ for the use and Conveniency of Travellers and Strangers as to them Respectively Shall Seem meet which is by the Court here unto him Granted he Giveing Security as the Law directs to keep Good Rules and Orders in his Ordinary or house of Entertainment as afd. Whereupon the Said Alexr. Thomas Russell together with Ephraim King and William Bounds of Somerset County Planter his Security all Present herein Court in his Proper Persons Acknowledged themselves Indebted unto his Lordship the Right Honrble the Lord Propry of the Province of Maryland in thirty Pounds Curt Money of Maryland of their bodies Goods or Chattles Lands and Tenements Joyntly and Severally to the use of his Said Lordship his heirs and Successors to be made and Levied if it happen that the Said Alexr. Thomas Russell do not keep Good Rules and Orders and do Suffer Idle Loose and disorderly Persons to tipple Game and Commit disorders or Other Irregularitys in his Ordinary or house of Entertainment Contrary to the true Intent and Meaning of the Act of Assembly in Such Case Provided &c" (SoJ-1760/63:099) Alexander married Anne Price, daughter of Crispin Price and Eve Hitch, on 02 Sep 1740 in Somerset Co., MD. (Anne Price was born about 1722 in Somerset Co., MD and died after 1778 in Somerset Co., MD.)
