Marjorie Nell Hitch, 73, left this world peacefully on Sept. 4, 2003, after a long struggle with lung disease.
Margie, daughter of A.R. and Gladys Ellis, was born in Levelland on Feb. 7, 1930. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1946 and from Abilene Christian University in 1968 with a degree in Psychology. She married Dixon V. Kendrick in 1950. She returned to Lubbock after living and working in Hawaii for many years. She then earned her R.N. from Covenant School of Nursing in 1973 and met and married Samuel H. Hitch, D.O., in 1974. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a member of Broadway Church of Christ. Services will be at Rix Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Ballard officiating. Survivors include her two brothers, Paul Ellis and Noel Ellis, M.D., both of Lubbock; her sister, Elizabeth Ellis of Lubbock; her two children, Gary Kendrick of Guam, and Gail Newcomb of Lubbock; her two grandsons, David Cook of Fresno, Calif., and Michael Cook of Columbus, Miss.; two nieces; three nephews; and two stepdaughters, Sandra Martin of Hereford and Phoebe McGowan of Mesquite. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam.
