Obituary:
BELOVED MAN CALLED HOME -
The body of William Garth Gilchrist, aged 65, one of North Alabama's most widely known residents, was conveyed to his home in Courtland today for interment following his death in Auburn, Ala at two o'clock Thursday afternoon. Mr. Gilchrist had gone to Auburn to be with his boys in school. The deceased is survived by his wife; three sons, William Garth Gilchrist Jr, Philip Philips Gilchrist, William David Gilchrist; three brothers P. P. Gilchrist of Decatur, George Gilchrist of Courtland and Dan Gilchrist of Courtland; one sister, Mrs. Dave Martin of Courtland. The deceased's widow is the former Miss Louise Clarke, of Rosedale, Miss, a granddaughter of Governor Clarke of Mississippi. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at ten o'clock in Courtland by Rev A C Summers, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Courtland. Mr. Gilchrist had friends throughout the Tennessee Valley to whom news of his passing will come with deepest regret. DECATUR DAILY - February 5, 1937
