William Rodolphus

William Rodolphus I was named in a certificate for land on 28 July 1649 at Northampton Co, VA. A certificate was granted to Richard Spratlyn for 150 acres due him for transporting Sussanna Spratlyn, Wm. Rodulphus and Kath. Rodulpus. He was named as a headright on 27 November 1657. William Rodulphus and Katherine Rodulphus were headrights in a patent issued to Robert Warren, Northampton County, Virginia.

William Rodolphus I patented land on 10 October 1658 at tract N122, west of Exmore, Northampton Co, VA. In 1658 a patent was issued to William Rodolphus for 300 acres. It was bounded northerly by marked trees of James Price; westerly on Benjamin Matthews; southerly by line of James Jones and easterly towards Ockahanock path. Whitelaw says he left no will but was succeeded by a son of the same name and his widow Elizabeth married George Hambling. In 1661 the patent was reissued and four years later it had escheated, but two years after that it was reissued to William Rodolpus Jr. and in 1682 he sold the 300 acres to Daniel Esam.

He was on the list of tithables at Accomack Co, VA, in 1663. He was shown as Wm. Rodolphus, with 2 tithes. He was named in a statement that was recorded in court records on 16 December 1663 at Accomack Co, VA. Wm. Rodolphus accused Samuell Banton of drinking and spoiling a "case of drames." Banton confessed and was ordered committed to the sheriff's custody and have twenty-five lashes applied to his naked shoulders. Peter Clavell confessed to being a confederate of Samuell Banton in drinking and spoiling a case of drink belonging to Wm. Rodolphus. Ordered that Clavell be committed to the sheriff's custody and have fifteen lashes "well laid" upon his naked shoulders. Jenkin Morris confessed to being with Samuell Banton and Peter Clavell and drinking part of the drink belonging to Wm. Rodolphus, but as it appeared he was not as guilty as Banton and Clavell, it was ordered that Jenkin Morris execute the punishment inflicted on Banton and Clavell and be acquitted of further action against himself for this offence.

He was on the list of tithables at Accomack Co, VA, in 1664. He was shown as Wm. Rodolphus, with 2 tithes.

He was a defendant in a court case on 18 January 1663/64 at Accomack Co, VA. It appeared to the court upon the balance of account between John Turnor, plaintiff, and Wm. Rodolphus, defendant, that Rodolphus owed Turnor 338 lbs tobacco. Ordered that Rodolphus pay Turnor and court charges. He was named in a court order on 16 December 1664 at Accomack Co, VA. Several persons were absent at muster; ordered that they be fined 20 lbs tobacco apiece. If anyone gave a reasonable account he would be referred to the Col. who could acquit him or return him to the sheriff. Persons delinquent at a muster held 15 August 1664 included William Redolphus.

William died before 2 May 1665 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that deed of gift of live stock from Elizabeth Rodolphus, widow, to William and Elizabeth Rodolphus, shows that Elizabeth is less the 11 years old. George Hamlin consents to the gift. On 18 Sep 1666 administration on the estate of William Rodolphus was granted to George Hamling as marring the widow of said William.

William married Elizabeth (?). (Elizabeth (?) was born about 1635.)
