Clyde P. Hitch, 75, of Alton, died at 12:10 a.m. Sunday (May 26, 1985) at St. Anthony's Hospital after an extended illness. he had been an operator in light oil at Shell Oil Company where he retired in 1975 after 45 years of services.

Born in White Hall, son of the late Edward and Catherine (Pilkington) Hitch, on Sept 1, 1948, he married Dixie Louise Minton. She died on April 13, 1982. He is survived by one stepdaughter, Jacquelyn Wohlert of Alton, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation and graveside rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, in Valhalla Memorial Park with the Rev. W. Russell Shaw officiating.

Clyde married Deering BAUGHMAN on 26 Mar 1930.14

Dixie L. Hitch, 69, of Alton, died at 11:50 p.m., Wednesday at St. John's Mercy Hospital, Creve Coeur, Mo. following a lengthy illness. Employed as a purchasing clerk at Olin Corp. until retiring in 1956, she was born in Kansas City, MO., a daughter of the late Louis and Maude Saunders Minton.

She married Clyde P. Hitch on Sept 1, 1948 in Alton and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Jacquelyn I. Wohlert of Alton, two grandchildren, a great grandchild, a sister, Alice Moore of Collinsville, and a brother, Howard "Finney" Minton of Marquand, Mo.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday with the Rev. W. Russell Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey, and the building fund of the Twelfth Street Presbyterian Church has been named as a memorial.

33. Grover William Howard HITCH was born on 30 Sep 1912 in White Hall, Greene Co., IL,80 died on 21 May 1984 in St. Joseph Hospital, Towson, MD 81 82 at age 71, and was buried about 24 May 1984 in American Veterans Cemetery, Hurlic, MD.14

General Notes: His obituary appeared in the "Baltimore Sun" on May 23, 1984 as follows: Services for Grover H. Hitch of Queenstown a former administrator with the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn will be held 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Helfenbein Funeral establishment in Chester.

Mr. Hitch, a former resident of Glen Burnie, died Monday (5/21) in St. Joseph's Hospital in Towson after a long illness. He was 71. A native of White Hall, IL, Mr. Hitch retired in 1968 after 32 years with the SSA. He moved to Maryland in 1936 after attending Browns Business School in Alton, IL.

Four years later, he married the former Doris Alma Dean who survives him. In 1975, he and his wife moved from Glen Burnie to Queenstown. Mr. Hitch, who served in the Army during WWII was an active member of the American Legion. He was past commander of the SSA American Legion. He. . . .

Survivors include daughter D. Audrey Hiebler of Catonsville and brother Clyde P. Hitch of Alton, IL and two grandchildren.

Grover married Doris Alana DEAN on 30 Sep 1940 in Baltimore, MD.14 83 Doris died after 22 May 1996.

Charles W Hitch, 82, Dies In Bethalto; Native of Patterson

Charles William Hitch of Bethalto, 82, died at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Dec 24, 1977, at Wood River Township Hospital, Wood River, following an illness of three years.

He was born Oct 7, 1895, in Patterson, the son of the late William J. and Daisy March Hitch. He was married to Goldie Lovelace on Oct 17, 1928. He was a veteran of World War I and served in France and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired as a leatherworker from International Shoe Co., in 1960.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: five daughters, Mrs. Pauline Stone and Mrs. Sharon McGuire, both of Alton; Mrs. Lois McRae of Bethalto; Mrs. Nira Ray of Jerseyville and Mrs. Billie Masiero of Wood River; two sons, James of Camarillo, Calif, and Ronald of Moro; 29 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Scoles of Pocahontas.

Visitation was from 4 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Smith Funeral Home, Bethalto, where services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, with Dr. C. O. Kool, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bethalto officiating. Burial was in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto, with full military rites by the Bethalto VFW of which he was a member.

Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Stephen McRae, Dannie McRae, Kevin McRae, Thomas McRae, Gregory Masiero and James Ray. Relatives from this area attending visitation and services were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smith, Mrs. Esther Patterson, Mrs. Vera Lee Preston and Mrs. Delores Wear.

Charles married Ina Alma RUTLEDGE, daughter of J.E. RUTLEDGE and M.L. (?), on 24 Sep 1915 in Greene Co., IL.14 Ina was born in 1895 in Greene Co., IL, died in 1922 in Greene Co., IL at age 27, and was buried in 1922 in Pine Tree Cemetery, Greene Co., IL.14
