General Notes: Elsie, age 91, passed away at her home. Elsie was born the daughter of the late Edward & Elizabeth (Geitner) Hitch. Elsie married Harlan Sahr of Fort Atkinson on Dec. 12, 1937. He preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1991. Elsie was a member of First United Methodist Church. Elsie volunteered her time at Nearly New, the Fort Atkinson Food Pantry and at church. She loved playing cards with her card club, taking bus tours, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Elsie is survived by her son, a daughter and her spouse, children, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, a sister, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She also was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Harvey, Ed and Howard; sisters, Doris Spitzer and Hazel Davis; and daughter-in-law, Randy Sahr.

General Notes: Pete, 86, passed away at the Black Hawk Senior Residence in Fort Atkinson. He was born the son of Edward & Elizabeth (Geitner) Hitch. He married Elizabeth Erna Brandt on April 14, 1944, in Fort Atkinson. He worked for the City of Fort Atkinson until his retirement. After his retirement, he drove funeral coach for Kutz Livery Service and later for Nitardy Funeral Home. Pete was a member of the First United Methodist Chruch of Fort Atkinson. Surviving are his wife, two sisters, a brother, a favorite niece, and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stanley Hitch; three brothers, Ralph Hitch, Harvey Hitch and Edward Hitch Jr.; and two sisters, Hazel Davis and Doris Spitzer.



Howard married Elizabeth Erna Brandt, daughter of Otto Brandt and Erna Schwenn, on 14 Apr 1944 in Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson Co., WI.35 Elizabeth was born on 7 Aug 1921 in Germany, died on 24 Apr 2010 in Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson Co., WI at age 88, and was buried on 28 Apr 2010 in Evergreen Cemetery, Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson Co., WI.

General Notes: Elizabeth "Betty" Erna Hitch, 88, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Sienna Crest in Fort Atkinson. Elizabeth was born on Aug. 7, 1921, in Germany, the daughter of Otto and Erna (Schwenn) Brandt. She married Howard "Pete" Edwin Hitch on April 14, 1944, in Fort Atkinson. Pete preceded her in death on July 17, 2008. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Atkinson. She enjoyed volunteering at the Golden LivingCenter where she helped with Bingo and baking, and she loved her flowers. Surviving are a brother, William D. Brandt of Janesville; a sister, Elsie Zingin of Jefferson; a special niece, Sandy (Wayne) Hasel of Fort Atkinson; and other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Stanley; brothers, Arthur, Roy and Frank Brandt; and a sister, Ursie Rue. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Atkinson with the Rev. John W. Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson. Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home until the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson or the First United Methodist Church of Fort Atkinson.

Edward Thomas Hitch

Edward Thomas Hitch, 64, died Friday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church with Arthur Lowe officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Mr. Hitch grew up in Palmyra, Wis., and graduated from Fort Atkinson, Wis., High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, retiring in 1973. He graduated from Cisco Junior College with an associate's degree in business administration and had been employed by Refrigeration & Supply, Color Vision and Nelson Supply. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Mesquite Oaks Golf Course. He married Margaret V. "Marge" Watts in 1953 in San Antonio.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Phillip Hitch of Peoria, Ill., and Rodney Hitch of San Antonio; three brothers, Eugene Hitch of Goldsboro, N.C., Harvey Hitch of Delaware and Howard Hitch of Fort Atkinson; three sisters, Hazel Davis and Elsie Sahr, both of Fort Atkinson, and Louise Willing of Jefferson, Wis.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 1202 S. Pioneer Drive, Abilene 79605.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7:30 p.m. today.

Edward married Margaret V. Watts,2 daughter of Leslie Watts and Margaret Lattimer, on 25 Jul 1953 in Randolph Afb, Near San Antonio, TX.35 Margaret was born on 13 Jun 1932 in Denver, Adams Co., CO53 and died on 26 Dec 1999 in Abilene, Taylor Co., TX53 at age 67.

General Notes: MARGARET HITCH, 67, of Abilene died Dec. 26. Services were Dec. 30. Mrs. Hitch was born in Denver. She married Edward Hitch, 1953. She worked for Bell Telephone Co., a pharmacy, and a nursery. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Dyess Hospital. Survivors include sons Phillip of Illinois and Rodney of Texas; mother Margaret Lattimer of Manzanola; father Leslie Watts of Denver; sisters Phyllus Kaufman and Christine Jesop, both of Denver, Elizabeth Watts of Lubbock; brothers Edward Lattimer of Greeley and Leslie Watts of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
